Special Weekend Update

View Walk to El Unico in a larger map

This weekend I walked from my apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan to El Unico, a Cuban restaurant in Union City, New Jersey, a distance of almost 14 miles. It was quite an adventure, let me tell you.

How was El Unico? Good. The Cuban sandwich was quite delicious, although I've had just as good or better at Margon in Midtown. The ropa vieja was adequate in taste but was almost cold. Yuca with garlic sauce was good, but again the temperature left much to be desired.

Overall it was a pleasant experience - El Unico is located in a nice strip of Union City, blocks away from striking views of the city. Other people ordered dishes which looked much better than my ropa vieja, but still, shouldn't a respectable Cuban place, by default, have good ropa vieja?

The man in front of me was eating a big plate of watermelon - I think he was a manager or owner
