Here is what the NYC Subway map looked like in the 70s (although this is actually a recent update to reflect the current system, but the update was just done for "fun" - it's not actually being used as the MTA map). Anyway, stylistically it totally dominates the current map, which is probably more functional. Still, as we all know, looks matter more than what's on the inside.
This is a recent Advil advertisement that I think was marketed in Mexico. It reminded me of the 70s Subway map.
