Falls Cords (And the Absurdity of Banana)

It's fall, or it will be soon, and that means certain things happen. One thing that happens is that people start dressing differently, "warmer" you might say. Often, when the air becomes crisp, people like to start wearing cords. I just want to be clear: I totally support that.

Here are some cords...

These are the low rise, straight fit cords from the Gap. Not bad. I'm a little worried about the low rise part, but they seem ok. I will be trying these on in the next couple of weeks.

These are classic fit cords from JCrew. These seem better. I will also be trying these on in the next couple of weeks.

These are...not cords. As far as I could tell, Banana Republic has no cords. That's a big mistake. While I'm on the subject of Banana Republic mistakes, I thought I should mention these Dawson fit chinos -- they're awful. The fit is baggy and leg is wide and terrible.

Over the past few months, Gap has gone up in quality. Banana continues to go down. I have to wonder if there is some inverse relationship. Perhaps there is only so much goodness Gap Inc. can produce, so if one chain is putting out more and more good stuff, some of that goodness has to be taken from another chain.

Wow, you know I really have to disagree with you on those pants from B-Reps. They look pretty good to me. That is a look that I like to shoot for. In fact, the first two pants are demonstrably much worse. Are you sure you are not trying to trick your readers here?

Hanson.

No, I'm with you about the 1st two for sure. Also, the big BR used to sell ideal cords. I had dark blue and brown pairs (even an embarrassing moss-green pair that looked almost brown indoors but turned grassy bright in the sun) from The Republic, and they all fit perfectly.

Alas, we can't relive the past...

Matt - are you suggesting I need help because I listen to Hanson?

Snick - it's a shame that BR seems to be past its prime. And I am very familiar with the moss green/brown color you are describing. It's a problem common to many makers of pants, not just BR.

Another comment like that and you are going to be banned from Food & Pants -- excommunicated, if you will.
