Childhood Flashbacks -- Gestapo

Himmler would be proud

Today is the first day of August. This sort of means that summer is kind of starting to wrap up. Which means it will be fall soon, which means the Jewish high holidays will be upon us! (ok, I'm stretching here, but I need to discuss the Jewish high holidays).

Well, since we've established that we are so close to the Jewish High Holidays, I thought I would help out all the young Jewish children who are cruelly dragged to services. When I was a youngster I hated going to synagogue for Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur. In fact, I still hate it and now that I am a grown-up I don't have to go!

Anyway, during services, my friends and I would sneak out and go and play in the religious school section of the building. One group of people would be the Nazi Gestapo, and the other group would be the Jews. The Jews would have to run and hide from the Gestapo. If you were Jewish, you might be shot, although the Gestapo really just wanted to capture and deport you. Sometimes, us Jews would steal one of the Gestapo person's guns and kill them!

So anyway, if you have the misfortune of being a Jew and the added misfortune of having to go to services, try sneaking out and playing Gestapo. You won't regret it, unless you get killed or captured.

Auf wiedersehen!
