Paris

Hello.  Join me as I stroll down the Rue de Michel on a perfect fall Paris day.  I'm on my way to my favorite boulangerie.

"Bonjour!" says the baker.

"Bonjour, you son of a bitch!" I say.

I order a Paris-brest and sit outside at a table facing the Place de Nation.  The pastry is very good.  It's no better than the finest French pastries I've had in New York.  Let me explain.  The finest New York French pastry shops are about as good as the finest Paris French pastry shops.  New York has several top-notch French bakeries while Paris has dozens.  But the best pastries from both regions are comparable.
