Emptiness

The Buddhists say that one should not become attached to things and that finding happiness involves letting go, in a certain sense, from the world. Well, that's nice...

For me, my life consists of a pattern of meaningless tasks which bring no joy or anything close to it. This is where Starbucks comes in. Starbucks knows that there are people such as myself who lead boring lives and need something - anything - to get us through our pointless days. Yes, I drink my latte and know it's going to come to an end, but then I know that I can go get another one and feel fulfilled for the duration of my drinking experience. And this cycle repeats. In a way, it's sort of Buddhist, because this way I don't need people or most things, just my Starbucks. But since, as the Buddhists say, everything is impermanent, one day Starbucks will go away and then I'll be screwed. But oh well - I'm all about the moment, just like a good Buddhist.

I am a Starbucks Buddhist. Nice to meet you.
